RedMen Consulting:
The Story

In 1986 I’d just left the world of secondary school teaching to forge a career in sales and later senior leadership which ended up spanning more than thirty fascinating years.

I’ve seen the world, or most of it at someone else’s expense, and had some extremely successful episodes in business along the way. I’ve met some awe-inspiring men and women on my journey … and I’ve stolen some great material from them all.

Perhaps more importantly, I’ve also been the architect of some absolute howlers! As in any career, there have also been encounters with some less than palatable leaders, clients and colleagues along the road.

All this has been a brilliant source of inspiration in its own right although funnily enough, a lot of it never felt like it when it was happening to me.

Somehow, the teacher in me has always stuck around. I’m never more rewarded in business than when training, consulting, coaching and mentoring. I flirted with training and consultancy back in 2007 but I still had some goals in corporate life that I wanted to experience but I always wanted to come back to consulting. So, in 2019 I took the leap and RedMen Consulting began to take shape – amongst some other projects and roles I was juggling at the time.

Fast forward to 2020 and sharing my experiences helping to build the skills of others in Leadership, Sales and Business Development across the various sectors is now my full-time passion project.

Every day I get to put the question to leaders and their teams

‘How do we as leaders get the best from people while allowing them to bring their whole selves to work?’

‘How can you actually achieve the performance you need through People Development and Process Adoption?’

‘How can we harness the skill, energy and intelligence of your people to drive high performance in your chosen business?

Where are your challenges and ambitions? What principles can we adopt and adapt to ensure success for all?’

It’s simple, really

  • Bring your individual style and ‘flair’ to the table.

  • Come prepared to work hard, agree robust processes and commit to consistent principles.

  • Let’s work on real live scenarios or opportunities which will impact your business.

  • If training is a ‘tick the box‘ exercise for your organisation … then maybe RedMen isn’t the partner for you.

Why RedMen?

Firstly, the name. My son James chose RedMen after I’d spent several hours fiddling with Latin, Greek and even Gaelic names in a fruitless effort to try and look a bit clever. My son pointed out that perhaps I should practice what I preach, and bring my whole self to work, so RedMen it was.

Those who know me won’t be at all surprised by the choice as I’ve never hidden my passion for Liverpool FC.

I’d also like to think that RedMen reflects some of those LFC characteristics I admire; longevity, success, learning from failure, professionalism, honesty and some skill as well as the knack to have a bit of fun along the way. I’ll bring a refreshingly honest and no-nonsense dimension to the work we do together.

I don’t really have the typical training programmes that we all know and love, though I do think some of their principles (which they all share) do resonate so I’ll share everything I’ve learned or stolen from my career and I’ll enjoy hearing your thoughts and ideas and probably steal them as well!

Last but by no means least, the ethos of Redmen Consulting is underpinned by basic principles once espoused by the great Bill Shankly.

“This is a simple game complicated by fools”

“If you’re not interfering with play, what are you doing on the pitch?”

“He made the people happy”

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at RedMen Consulting.

We look forward to working with you!
